Chapter 78: The Naive Sweetheart

"Do you remember when we used to work together back in the day?" Hecarim reminisced. "We could barely get enough to eat, and now we get to enjoy such luxuries." Joseph smiled slightly. If he were to recount all his overseas experiences, Hecarim probably wouldn’t believe him. So he simply said, "To me, these things aren't that important. What I truly want is for the people around me to live well." By this time, Myrdal had slowly approached Joseph. "Hello, Mr. Joseph, your houses have been purchased. Here are your contracts," she said. But Joseph didn't pay attention to the contracts. He noticed a wound on Myrdal's foot. Given his extensive life experiences, he could tell at a glance. "Who bullied you?" "No... no one..." Joseph smiled. "You're such a naive sweetheart." Myrdal was confused. "Huh?" Joseph felt the need to help her. She reminded him of his daughter, Tangna. "Call your supervisor over." Myrdal panicked. "Why do you need to see my supervisor? Please, we haven’t done anything wrong. Are you going to tell the supervisor something bad about us? Please don’t get me fired; this is my first job here!" To Joseph’s surprise, she was worried about such things. He calmly explained, "Don't worry, I'm not calling the supervisor because of you. I want him to change the signature on this document to yours. Otherwise, you’re just working for someone else." Myrdal finally understood. "But... that seems like a lot of trouble for you. I don’t mind; I’m just an intern." "Beyoncé told me she would handle it and give me the commission." Joseph chuckled at her naivety. "What if she doesn't give it to you? This document has legal weight. If you don’t sign it, it symbolizes that Beyoncé did all the work." "If you don’t get any sales and get fired, what then?" Myrdal was touched by Joseph’s concern and realized she shouldn’t trust Beyoncé so easily. "Beyoncé came to me, and I told her to get lost. I’m not trying to create conflict, but from my experience, I really don’t like her." "If you agree, call your supervisor." Joseph’s willingness to help touched Myrdal. She immediately called her supervisor, Mr. Tonksen, who managed the Beverly Hills area. When Tonksen answered, Joseph spoke, "Hello, I just bought two houses in Beverly Hills, Number One Villa and Number Two Villa. There’s a problem; can you come over?" Realizing Joseph was the mysterious buyer of two prime villas, Tonksen agreed quickly. "Yes, sir, I’ll be there right away." Such a significant client couldn’t be mishandled. In under five minutes, Tonksen arrived and bowed slightly to Joseph. "Hello, Mr. Joseph. How can I assist you?" Joseph pointed to the document. "Look at this contract. What’s going on here?" Tonksen saw that the contract clearly stated Myrdal’s name, but the signature was Beyoncé’s. "What’s this about, Myrdal?" Myrdal, nervous but truthful, explained, "Beyoncé told me since I’m new, I might not get any commission, so she signed her name. She said she’d give me the commission later." Tonksen immediately called Beyoncé over. "Come here." Beyoncé, confused, approached. "What’s wrong, sir?" "Explain this signature." Beyoncé froze. "Um... I... well..." "Is this client yours? Why did you bully Myrdal and steal her client?" Beyoncé couldn’t think of a reasonable explanation. She fell back on her previous excuse. "I was trying to help Myrdal. I was worried she wouldn’t handle the responsibility well during her probation. If you think I overstepped, you can punish me. It’s my fault." "Why don’t we just change the signature to Myrdal’s?" Tonksen turned to Joseph. Joseph nodded. "Fine, but I have one more request. Myrdal should come with me." Myrdal was stunned. Beyoncé couldn’t understand. Why Myrdal? She wasn’t particularly special aside from being young. Did Joseph have some peculiar taste? Joseph and Hecarim left the sales office, feeling a sense of satisfaction as they saw the astonished looks on the other salespeople’s faces. "Sometimes, strength is the best proof," Joseph told Hecarim with a smile. Myrdal chased after them, full of gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Joseph. Without you, I would never have been able to stand up to them." Joseph shook his head gently. "No thanks needed. You deserve this. Remember, never underestimate your worth. Everyone has value." With that, Joseph and Hecarim drove away, leaving Myrdal thoughtful. Others were left wondering, why did Joseph choose Myrdal over Beyoncé? Beyoncé was clearly more attractive, with a flawless figure and no excess weight. Yet, Joseph had chosen Myrdal.
