Chapter 3914
Oh, right. Ruth mentioned that the York family elders were very open-minded.
Open-minded elders and a good family culture were what cultivated outstanding children. It was little wonder that Austin was exceptional and bore such an impressive demeanor. It turned out that he was from a prestigious family.
“Isa, what's wrong with Austin? Can we start eating now?”
Louis and Phillip were completely confused. All they knew was Austin was not from a simple family, and that he was very capable. Even Ruth had shaken hands with him.
The two boys were too young to understand anything besides that. They were just hungry and wanted to eat.
It was cold, and the barbecue was very comforting to eat hot off the grill.
Isabella smiled and said, “All you two think about is eating. Well, the meat and vegetables are all cooked, so we can start eating now.”
As she spoke, she grabbed some meat, shrimp, and vegetables for her baby brothers. Then, she began eating, and everyone followed suit.
Ruth took a piece of meat for herself with the serving fork and tasted it. After savoring the flavor, she asked Isabella, “Is there more of this? Can you give me some of this as a sauce? The flavor of this marinade is perfect, I really like it.”
Ruth loved her condiments. Isabella immediately instructed an employee to go to the kitchen and serve Ruth some in a small saucer.
After Ruth had revealed Austin’s true identity, the O'Connors were extremely surprised. However, in front of the food, they quickly shrugged off their astonishment and focused on enjoying the meal.
Since Austin had come to apply for the job as a chef on his own, and not at their invitation, they decided to treat him as just that—a chef.
Here, there was no “Young Master Austin York,” and simply Austin, the chef.
Thinking this way, the family members put Austin’s true identity out of their minds.
After everyone had eaten their fill and sat for a while, Isabella instructed an employee to go and invite Austin to take a walk with her with the excuse that it would help her digest. However, she actually wanted to ask Austin about his background in private.
A few minutes later, the two were slowly walking in the garden.
The snow on the ground had been cleared by the employees but remained thick on the edges of the road. The two walked along, enjoying the white blanket of scenery.
After a few minutes, Austin spoke first, apologetically. “Ms. Isabella, I didn’t mean to hide anything. It's just that you never asked about my family, and I did answer truthfully when asked.”
“I never thought that you were intentionally hiding anything, but even if you had told me you were one of the Wiltspoon Yorks from the start, as long as you applied sincerely and your cooking skills were up to par, I still would have hired you. I wouldn’t have rejected you just because of your family background.
“Still, I really didn’t expect your family to be such a prominent one. I knew you owned hotels and restaurants, so I assumed you were already successful in your career. I have a lot of respect for you and I admire elites.”
In her eyes, Austin was indeed an elite of the culinary world.
“I just happen to have been born into the York family. Our family reputation and wealth are something our ancestors left behind. What we truly want is to rely on our abilities and create something on our own.
“That way, it’ll truly be our own achievement. If I just take over the family business, I’d always feel like something is missing.”
