Chapter 3913
After Austin left, Isabella asked her friend, "Ruth, do you know the Wiltspoon Yorks? Is Austin really one of them?"
“You’ve never been to Wiltspoon, Isabella, and it's so far away. Plus your family doesn't have business there, so it's normal you don't know much about them. I was there for half a month for a trip, and my in-laws have business there.
“Last time, when I went on a business trip with my husband, we heard a lot of gossip and rumors related to the York family.
“In Wiltspoon, there are several prominent families, but the wealthiest and most powerful is the York family. York Corporation holds the same status in the business world of Wiltspoon as your family does here.”
Ruth was introducing the York family to everyone, giving them a preliminary understanding of the family.
After that explanation, Ruth added, “The York family has a great family culture to boot. The men in their family are all very loyal. Once they marry, they will remain loyal to their wife and family for life and won’t ever cheat.
“Tons of girls dream of marrying into the York family, not because of their wealth, but because of their loyalty.
“Who doesn’t want to marry a devoted man? Especially when those men are so outstanding, excellent in their own right, and they’re all really handsome too. I just didn’t expect one of the York sons to travel all the way here to be your chef.
“The Yorks have nine sons in this generation. The one who’s most talked about is the head of the family, the eldest son, Zachary. Your personal chef, Austin, is actually his full-blooded brother.
“In Wiltspoon, there isn’t much known about him. He’s quite low-key. All I know is that he’s loved cooking since he was young and is particularly passionate about it. Ah, now I get it. The reason he came here to be your chef—his love for cooking.
“Isabella, you’re so picky that you tend to find all the flaws in the cooking, but those flaws are actually the chefs' mistakes. If they’re open-minded, can accept your feedback, and work on it, they can improve their culinary skills. I think Austin probably came here for that.
“Wait—Isabella, didn’t you do a background check on Austin before hiring him as your personal chef?” Ruth asked curiously. From what she knew of Isabella, she usually would.
Isabella actually flushed slightly as she said, “I did, I even had someone look into him twice. All I found out was that he’s a successful young entrepreneur and that he loves cooking, so I hired him as my chef. I’ve been very polite to him all this while.”
She admired capable people, after all. Knowing that Austin was so successful in his career, but still left his status behind and came to be a chef for her in order to improve his culinary skills—she really respected that kind of spirit.
“The investigation didn’t uncover that he was one of the Wiltspoon Yorks, so I never connected him with York Corporation. It’s strange because the hotels and restaurants under his name aren’t affiliated with York Corporation.”
Ruth laughed and said, “That’s normal. The York brothers, in addition to managing the family business, also have their entrepreneurial ventures. Their own companies won’t necessarily do business with York Corporation.
“Also, it’s possible that when you were investigating Austin, the Yorks found out, and knowing he was here to improve his craft, they helped him hide his identity, not letting you discover that he’s actually one of them.
“The Yorks have a good relationship with the Buchams, and the Buchams’ information network is widespread. If you were to investigate Austin, it would be easy for them to notice.”
Isabella fell silent. The members of the O'Connor family exchanged looks. No one expected Isabella’s new personal chef Austin to have such a remarkable background.
One of the Wiltspoon Yorks had actually come to their home to be a chef, and even the elders of his family had not stopped him.
