Chapter 3912
“Your family? As in, Wiltspoon’s York Corporation? Is that your family’s company?” Ruth asked in shock. She looked at Austin, disbelief written all over her face.
The members of the O'Connor family were all watching the two of them.
“Yeah, that’s my family's company. Our ancestors were good enough to build a strong foundation my elder brother now manages.”
“Where do you fall in the order of your siblings and cousins?” Ruth had once traveled to Wiltspoon with her husband for a business trip and had spent half a month there, so she knew a bit about the most prominent family in Wiltspoon.
She had also been deeply impressed by the good values the Yorks had. She had heard that the York sons were all exceptional, talented individuals, and indeed, Austin was exceptionally handsome—so much so that it could even incur a god’s jealousy.
But how did a young master of the York family end up working as a chef for the O'Connor family?
Though York Corporation was based in Wiltspoon, its financial strength was on par with the O'Connor family. Moreover, all the York sons were very capable and were each leaders in their own right, which made them far more impressive than the O'Connor family.
The difference was that the O'Connor family only had daughters, while the York family only had sons. The York family had not had a daughter in generations and the matriarch, Old Mrs. York, had hoped for a granddaughter but was disappointed time and again. Now, she was hoping for a great-granddaughter.
When Ruth heard about the York family back then, she even mentioned to her husband that any woman who married into the York family and managed to give birth to a daughter would truly become the apple of the Yorks’ eye and be adored by everyone.
“I’m the sixth of my generation.”
Ruth stood up and politely extended her right hand to shake Austin’s, smiling as she said, “I’ve been to Wiltspoon and stayed there for half a month, so I’ve heard the legends about the Yorks. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr. York.”
Austin glanced at Isabella before shaking hands with Ruth perfunctorily.
“Mr. Zachary York is your older brother, right?”
Ruth had heard that Zachary and Austin were both from the same nuclear family.
“Yes, he’s my older brother. All of us are pretty close, including our cousins.”
“I’ve heard your grandmother is a very wise and open-minded woman and the pillar of your family, and I’ve also heard that all nine of you York brothers were raised by your grandparents. Many people envy your grandmother.”
Especially elderly people whose children and grandchildren had little ability. As soon as Old Mrs. York was mentioned, they only had words of admiration for her.
Most families would be happy if they just managed to raise one capable successor, but she had managed to raise nine. Any of her grandsons could be a successor capable of taking on the York Corporation’s heavy responsibilities.
It almost felt like the Yorks had taken all the talent.
With wise elders and a talented younger generation, it was no wonder that the York family continued to flourish. No other family could surpass them in Wiltspoon, not for their lack of trying, of course. The Yorks maintained their position as the undisputed leader in the business world.
Austin smiled, “Thank you for your kind words about my grandmother, Ms. Fuller. In our hearts, she is the best nana in the world. Anyway, you should go ahead and join Ms. Isabella for the barbecue. I’ll go take care of some things now.”
Austin quickly withdrew.
He knew that everyone would be eager to ask Ruth how she had guessed that he was from the York family. The surname York was not common, but even Isabella had not linked him to the York family.
She had probably assumed that being a member of the Wiltspoon’s richest and most prominent family, one of their sons would never come to work as a private chef for her.
However, he was here first and foremost to cook, not to pursue her. Even his pursuit of her came second to his cooking.
