Chapter 46: The Indifferent Doctor
"Tangna! Tangna, are you okay?" Lucy screamed. "Nana!"
Terrified, Lucy carried Tangna and ran outside. Just then, she saw Joseph. Joseph, seeing Lucy carrying Tangna, was slightly startled.
"What happened? Did something happen to Tangna?"
Seeing Joseph, Lucy broke down in tears.
"Thank goodness you came back in time! Tangna suddenly fainted for no apparent reason! We need to get to the hospital quickly!"
Hearing this, Joseph immediately nodded.
"Alright, let's go to the hospital now."
He extended his arms and took Tangna into his embrace. Lucy followed closely behind him.
The two quickly drove to the hospital.
In the hospital, the doctors were examining Tangna. Joseph waited anxiously in the waiting room. Lucy stayed inside with Tangna.
After a long time, Lucy came out.
"How is Tangna? Has she woken up? Do the doctors need our help with anything?"
Lucy shook her head.
"Not yet, but the doctor showed me Tangna's electrocardiogram. It seems normal. I asked him, and he said this might have happened because Tangna's emotions were overly stimulated. He told us to relax."
Although uncertain about the situation, Lucy chose to believe the doctor.
"Was Tangna's health always like this?" Joseph asked, deeply concerned.
Lucy sighed.
"Well, her health wasn't bad before. But after the incident with Tom, her condition has been unstable..."
"It's my fault. I'm an unfit mother."
Joseph waved his hand dismissively.
"It's not your fault. It's all my fault."
"Believe me, I will never let you two suffer again!"
"By the way, I've arranged for some chicken soup and porridge to be brought here. It should arrive soon. When Tangna wakes up, she can have some."
Joseph smiled gently.
Lucy was deeply moved.
"You're so good to us."
Lucy smiled and nodded.
At that moment, the doctor came out.
Lucy immediately went up to inquire about Tangna’s condition.
"Doctor, how is my child? Is she alright?"
Lucy anxiously awaited the doctor's response.
The doctor looked at her and said, "She’s fine. But her emotions are very unstable. You need to pay more attention to that in the future."
"And don't let her get upset too often. People with bad moods easily fall ill."
Hearing this, Lucy nodded in agreement.
"Alright, thank you, doctor! Thank you!"
After thanking the doctor, Lucy returned to Tangna's room.
Tangna still hadn't opened her eyes.
Joseph comforted Lucy, "My friend will be here soon. He's a very skilled doctor. With him here, our baby will be in good hands."
At this point, Joseph noticed that Tangna didn’t show any signs of having undergone a medical examination.
What's going on?
Joseph turned to ask Lucy.
"How much did the doctor charge you just now?"
"Five thousand dollars, mainly for various tests related to this issue."
Five thousand?
They dared to charge five thousand without doing anything?
Joseph smirked coldly and stormed into the hospital's office.
Doctor Peter saw Joseph and frowned.
"Why don’t you knock? Don’t you have any manners?"
Seeing it was Peter, Joseph coldly asked, "Do I need to knock to see you? Do I need your permission for my actions?"
"What do you mean?" Peter retorted.
Joseph sneered.
"You know exactly what I mean! Why did it cost five thousand dollars for Tangna's non-existent tests?"
Peter rolled his eyes.
"Because their case is special. If you don’t believe me, have someone check."
Lucy, emboldened by Joseph's presence, spoke up, "But it was just a simple checkup. Why so expensive?"
Peter looked at them, his tone condescending. "Do you know who I am? I'm an internationally renowned doctor. We don't take patients who can't pay well!"
Hearing this, Joseph scoffed.
"Really? You sound like you're something special."
Peter raised an eyebrow.
"Of course. Parents like you, who can’t afford anything, shouldn’t have children! How can you raise a child without money?"
Lucy's face contorted with discomfort at Peter's words.
"That’s irresponsible. Why don’t you say we have children for our country’s future? People like you shouldn’t have children either."
Enraged by Lucy's words, Peter stood up, ready to strike.
Joseph casually knocked on the desk.
"Enough. Don’t waste time on useless actions."
"If you continue to provoke me, do you know what the consequences will be?"
Peter charged at Joseph, ready to punch him.
Joseph countered with a swift punch.
"Ah!"
Peter didn’t pass out because Joseph held back his strength. If Joseph hadn’t, Peter would be unconscious.
Peter didn’t see this as a favor.
"Do you know who I am? I’m Doctor Peter!"
"You dare hit me? You’re finished!"
"I’m calling the FBI! Just wait!"
The FBI?
Joseph knew that the local FBI in San Francisco handled serious offenders.
On one hand, his punch wouldn’t land him in jail. On the other, even if he did go to jail, what of it?
He had nothing to fear!
The FBI officers were his people!
Why should he be afraid?
"Just you wait!"
Joseph shrugged nonchalantly.
"Do whatever you want. Let’s see what you can do."
"You’re obstructing justice. I’ll make sure you end up in jail!"
"Doctor Peter."
At that moment, a voice rang out.
Peter turned to see Lucy, who was anxiously speaking.
"Please don’t hold this against us. We…"
Joseph calmly led Lucy away.
"If he wants to act recklessly, let him. Talking to him is pointless."
