Chapter 26: Reaper Takes a Beating
At the sight of Joseph, Lucy's elder uncle Johnson immediately gave him a cold look.
"It's your grandfather's birthday today! And you bring this wild man home? Aren't you ashamed?!"
"Someone, take this wild man away!"
"No, don't take him away, just beat him to death! His existence brings shame to our family!"
Johnson wasn't alone in his disdain; her second uncle, Rock, also hated Joseph.
"In fact, he also despised Lucy along with him."
"Lucy, you have already brought shame to our family. Now, on our patriarch's eightieth birthday, with all our friends and relatives gathered here, you bring a man of unknown origin into our home. It's a slap in the face for all of us!"
"Lucy, I feel you have no heart at all!"
"If you ask me, you should just get lost!"
Moreover, her fourth uncle, Fox, who had brought Lucy back, sneered.
"I don't even know who Lucy takes after."
"She has no mind of her own!"
"Even if she were offered to me for free, I wouldn't want a woman like her in society!"
Lucy's biological father, Simpson, who ranked third, stood there awkwardly, not daring to say anything.
In fact, when Lucy was expelled from the family, he had pleaded for her. But no one gave him a chance to explain.
Because of Lucy, the family looked down on him and his wife!
As a result, Simpson had lived a life worse than a dog at home for the past five years!
He had wanted to find Lucy, but the family threatened to kick him out if he did!
Knowing his own limitations, he couldn't make it in society without the family's support.
For this reason, he had no say at home.
Everyone knew he was just trash.
Lucy didn't speak to anyone else; instead, she turned to Simpson with tears in her eyes and said, "Father, I'm back."
Simpson was taken aback, unsure how to respond.
At this moment, he heard Lucy's voice.
"You always told me to do what I love and not care about others' opinions."
"But now..."
"What is all this for?"
Simpson remained silent, knowing he had no right to speak.
Then, Fox stepped forward, sneering at Simpson.
"Simpson, you're the first one who agreed to kick Lucy out back then."
"What right do you have to make suggestions in front of us?"
"Lucy, come with me."
Fox said, trying to take Lucy to a side hall.
"How long are you two going to talk here?"
"Grandpa's birthday banquet starts in half an hour, and you're still dawdling!"
Before Lucy could agree, Simpson suddenly spoke.
"Wait!"
"Lucy, how is your health now?"
"And what's your current position?"
"Can you tell your father these things?"
Hearing Simpson's words, Lucy was surprised.
It turned out her biological father wasn't entirely without emotion.
At least he still asked these questions.
As she prepared to answer, Simpson continued.
"And has this wild man beside you been helping?"
"If he hasn't helped, he's just trash!"
Simpson was referring to Joseph.
Lucy frowned.
"Father, things aren't as you think. Joseph is a good man."
"He hasn't been able to help because he's been abroad and just recently returned."
Before she finished, Simpson walked over to Joseph and slapped him hard.
The sound of the slap was loud and clear.
"You trash! Who allowed you to treat my daughter like this!"
"Tell me! Who!"
"You bring shame to our family, you know that!"
After one slap, he seemed unsatisfied and planned to give another.
But Tangna didn't like it.
She burst into tears.
"Waah! Daddy! Don't hit my daddy!"
"You're a bad man! You're a bad man!"
At the moment Joseph was hit, members of the Hell Organization appeared in Lucy's home.
They took out their weapons.
They were ready to kill all of Lucy's family!
After all, they had just hit the son of Hell!
Joseph realized this was bad!
He quickly signaled them to retreat!
The group that had just appeared reluctantly withdrew.
But they couldn't swallow this anger!
Joseph waved them off and then comforted Tangna.
"It's all Daddy's fault. Grandpa is right to discipline me."
But Tangna shook her head.
"Daddy did nothing wrong!"
"You did nothing wrong!"
"Waah!"
"You all bully my mommy! You all bully my mommy!"
Tangna clenched her fists and charged at Simpson!
This scene truly shocked Simpson!
What could a six-year-old child do to him?
Obviously, nothing!
But just as Simpson was about to grab Tangna's arm, a figure suddenly blocked his move!
Simpson looked forward in surprise to see it was Joseph!
Joseph smiled kindly at him.
"She's just a child; don't be so rough."
Simpson's face darkened.
"Get out of my way; this is my home! What does it have to do with you?!"
Joseph calmly held Tangna in his arms and stood before Lucy, addressing everyone.
"I know that the events of the past were my fault, and I have nothing to say about that."
"But you should also know the kind of person I am by nature."
"I would never do anything to hurt Lucy, so I have been working hard all these years."
"I know I've neglected them too much, so if you give me a chance, I'll give them a wedding that will shake the whole nation!"
Hearing this, Johnson sneered.
"Shake the nation? Didn't the past event already shake the whole city enough?"
"You made Lucy suffer so much humiliation, and you think a simple apology is enough?"
Joseph sighed.
"I'm sorry, I know that incident was an accident, I really didn't do it on purpose, so..."
Fox also sneered.
"Haha! Now that the child is born, you come back to be a good husband?"
"If you really cared for her, why did you leave back then?"
