Chapter 123: Happiness Comes So Suddenly
"For so many years, I have been bullied by you. I've been oppressed for so long, and now I need to vent!"
Susan quickly ran up to her father and explained, "Dad, calm down! Joseph has already taken care of the Rick family. They won't trouble us anymore!"
Hearing this, Susan's father froze, looking at her in disbelief.
She smiled and nodded, confirming her words.
Susan's father sighed in relief, his body relaxing involuntarily.
At that moment, the leader of the Rick family got out of the car and walked towards Joseph, speaking respectfully.
"Mr. and Ms. Susan's family, we are here to apologize. We have wronged you before, and we hope you can forgive us. From now on, you and Ms. Susan will be the most honored guests of the Rick family."
With that, he presented a generous gift as a token of their apology.
Susan graciously accepted and invited them inside.
Unexpectedly, the man knelt before Susan's father.
Rick slapped himself hard.
"No gift can compare to the satisfaction of slapping myself. Right, big brother?"
"I know I was wrong back then. I shouldn't have treated you like that. Please forgive us, can you?"
"Susan's father, and Susan, we truly know our mistake."
Seeing the entire Rick family kneeling before him, Susan's father found it hard to believe.
Was this real? Or would it vanish like a fleeting dream?
The next moment, Rick's biological mother, Honcase, who was also Susan's grandfather's mistress, arrived in a car.
She got out of the car, her face full of wrinkles, looking close to death.
Seeing the Rick family kneeling, she was furious.
"What are you doing? Do you forget which family you belong to?"
"Why are you kneeling in broad daylight? Have you no shame?"
"Do you think the Rick family was born to kneel to others?"
The Rick family members exchanged glances.
"Who let the cat out of the bag and told her?"
"It doesn't matter even if she knows. The Rick family isn't run by her anymore."
"You can't say that..."
They hadn't told Honcase about Susan and her father because she held grudges and still resented the past.
If she knew the Rick family had welcomed Susan and her father, she'd likely cause trouble.
Despite their efforts to keep it a secret, she still found out.
Following Honcase was an old man named Kayson Rick, who had suffered from Alzheimer's for many years.
He barely remembered the past due to his illness, and had been out of sight for so long that many thought he might be dead.
Susan's father was surprised to see Kayson Rick walking on his own.
"You... are okay?"
Seeing Susan's father, Kayson Rick burst into tears.
"I'm sorry. I was foolish back then and didn't realize so much had happened. I thought you and your mother left on your own. I'm sorry. Even if I explained, you'd think I was bullying you, right?"
"Knowing I wronged you and your mother, I promise to make it up to you. Okay, son?"
Susan's father was stunned but nodded.
"Alright, we won't talk about the past anymore."
While father and son reconciled, Honcase was unhappy.
"No! I don't care about the past, but as long as I'm here, I won't let Susan and her father enter this family!"
When Kayson Rick was absent, Honcase had been managing the Rick family and had firmly opposed Susan and her father returning.
Now hearing her stance, the others were indifferent, used to her attitude.
Unexpectedly, Kayson Rick erupted.
"You think you're so great? Shut up! I'm not dead yet!"
"I've been sick and angry for years, partly because of you!"
"I don't care who you think you are! Stay out of my family's business, or I'll kill you!"
Honcase was terrified by Kayson Rick's outburst.
"Come on, son, and my good granddaughter. Let's go home and honor your mother."
Susan walked over, speaking for the first time to her grandfather.
"Grandpa, hello, I am..."
Before she could finish, Kayson Rick cried and nodded.
"I never thought you'd grow up so much! I'm sorry, it was all my fault!"
"You've suffered so much all these years!"
"Let's take our car home and reunite."
Susan's father was stunned.
Was this happiness?
Did it come so suddenly?
Honcase was utterly dumbfounded.
How could this nearly dead old man suddenly become so sharp?
And why was her son Rick making such a blunder?
"Why did you say those things? Do you know what you're doing?"
"I worked hard to make you head of the Rick family, and now you bring back your father's son?"
Rick waved dismissively.
"Mom, you don't understand!"
"If we don't do this, the Rick family will collapse!"
"You know nothing! Stop talking!"
With that, Kayson Rick took Susan and her father home, leaving Honcase behind.
