Emily stood in silence, watching Sophia. Sophia had just been through something traumatic, yet the first thing on her mind wasn't her own safety, but making sure she didn't trouble anyone else. It didn't make sense. And yet, there wasn't a single thing she could say was wrong. Gabriel's brows furrowed even deeper. "Don't overthink it," he said, his voice low and firm. "You don't need to worry about anything right now. Just rest." He pulled the blanket up around Sophia, tucking her in. "Sleep. I'll be right outside." Sophia looked like she wanted to say something, but when her eyes met Gabriel's, something in his steady gaze made her fall silent. Eventually, she closed her eyes. She really did look exhausted. Not long after, her breathing softened and steadied, and she seemed to have fallen asleep. Gabriel stayed by her bedside for a while longer. Then, when he was sure she was sound asleep, he slowly rose to his feet. He then walked over to Emily, his face heavy with guilt.
