The perfect heir

Eleanor had expected that Thomas would do such a thing to stop her from getting into the pack, so she had come prepared. Reaching into her bag, she brought out the documents she had brought along. They were divorce papers and orders from the Council giving directions about the property division. With them in hand, she opened the door and got out. “Here,” she said, handing them to the warrior who had approached the car. “These are papers from the Council showing that I have every right to be here. Alpha Thomas has no power to stop me.” The warrior took the papers and looked over them. He showed his partner the papers, and after a few minutes, they returned them to her. “We are sorry, Luna Eleanor,” the first warrior apologised. “We were only following orders. Please proceed. “I understand,” she told them with a smile. “No worries.” She got back into the car and they resumed the drive towards the packhouse. She was glad the warriors had not tried to complicate things. They too understood that the Council’s authority surpassed that of Alpha Thomas. Before, Thomas would have been able to deny her access to the pack with a few orders to his warriors. But with the new law, the most he could do was try to bully or intimidate her. *** At Blackstorm, Thomas got off the phone with a grim look on his face. He had just received a call from the two guards at the pack’s entrance, informing him that Eleanor was on her way to the packhouse. “What is it?” Mia asked, noticing his agitation. The two of them were sitting on the deck in the back of the house. “Eleanor is on her way here,” he informed her. “Didn’t you tell the guards at the border to not let her through?” she asked. He clenched his jaw. “I did. But she had papers from the Council. Even I cannot go against those.” Mia sighed and stood up. “That doesn’t mean you should just let do whatever she wants. Why don’t you cut off her access to the pack’s funds?” Thomas looked up at her. “What?” “With no money, she’ll be toothless, unable to fight you. Also, how can she lead a pack without money? I think it’s the perfect way to get back at her for what she did to you yesterday,” Mia suggested. Thomas thought about it. It was a good idea, but… They had both earned that money. Mia placed her palms on the edge of the table and looked at him. “Don’t make her think she can come here after what she did and do whatever she wants. You are the Alpha of this pack. Remind her that. If she wants anything, let her beg you for it.” Sure, they had earned that money together. But she had lost her right to it when she decided to leave him. Mia was right. This was the best way to show her who called the shots around here. Reaching for his tablet on the table, he went online and accessed the pack’s accounts. Within a few minutes, he had removed Eleanor’s access from all of them. Mia walked around the table, a pleased smile on her face. She stood behind his chair and rested her hands on his shoulders. “So, I have good news.” “What is it?” Thomas asked, his voice devoid of curiosity or excitement. At the moment, his mind was focused on how to deal with Eleanor when she showed up at the villa. “We are having a baby,” Mia squealed. Thomas looked up at her, caught by total surprise. “Really?” Mia nodded and sat down beside him. She took his hand in hers. “Yes. You don’t need her anymore. Our baby will have Alpha blood like you, and he’ll be the perfect heir.” One of Thomas’s misgivings about bringing Mia back to the pack and Eleanor leaving him was because unlike Eleanor, Mia could not give him the strong heir he needed. Eleanor had been the ideal fit for him not just because she was a good warrior but also because of her lineage. Mia did not have an Alpha lineage. But maybe she was right. Their baby would take after him. After all, his Alpha genes were superior to her Omega ones. And if she gave him an heir, she could also be a suitable Luna. “That’s great,” he told her. “That’s very good news.” She leaned over and gave him a deep kiss. When she pulled back, she ran her hands over his shirt seductively. “We should show her that we don’t need her anymore. She thinks by divorcing you, you suffered a loss. She is wrong, and we’ll become even more prosperous now that she is gone. When she realises she has been scammed by the Darkfall Alpha, she’ll come back crawling begging for our help.” Mia’s words strengthened Thomas’s determination to make Eleanor regret her decision. Since things were already like this, he would be throwing away his pride if he asked her to come back. So the best thing was to make her regret leaving him and as Mia put it, come back crawling to him. “I can’t believe how ungrateful she is,” Mia said with a snicker. “You allowed her to do things other Lunas can only dream of, and this is how she pays you back. Just because everybody has been praising her, she thinks she can lead her own pack. How delusional!” Thomas thought about all the times he had supported Eleanor in doing things that she-wolves didn’t normally do. Back then, he had admired her and the way she pushed forward despite all the obstacles. He had kept on blindly supporting her until he helped her pass the law that she was now using to claim his property. If he had known this was what she intended to do all along, he never would have given her so much authority in the pack. Mia’s hand moved all the way down until it was resting against his crotch. He snagged her wrist and pulled it away. “Not now.” He liked that she was always so eager to please him, but this was not the time. Not when Eleanor could burst through the doors of the villa any minute now. Mia pouted and pulled back. “Before she gets here, there’s something I want you to know.” “What?” “Did you know that her wolf disappeared?” “What?” Thomas repeated, his brow creasing in a frown. She nodded. “Right now, she is wolfless.” Just as the information sank into Thomas’s mind, there was clamour from the front of the house. The two of them rose and went into the house through the back door. When they came to the living room, it was just as Eleanor walked through the front door.
