Chapter 3916
Isabella knew it would not be that quick.
By the time Louis could take over, which would be twenty years later, she would already be close to fifty years old. If she got married and had children within the next two years, her children could inherit her businesses a few years after Louis took over the family business.
That way, she could finally retire for good.
“Austin, you’re aware that I sent someone to Wiltspoon to investigate your background, right? There was no information about you being a young master of the Yorks. Was it because you didn’t want me to know about it?”
“No.”
Austin said honestly, “I wasn’t aware. Zachary was the one who told me that you investigated me twice. You couldn’t find the connection between me and York Corporation because Zachary covered it up for me.
“He knew that I was here to cook and improve my skills. If you knew I was a young master of the wealthiest family in Wiltspoon, you might not have hired me as your private chef. If so, I wouldn’t be able to receive your advice, and my cooking skills wouldn’t improve.
“Haven’t you noticed that the food I cooked lately was better than what I made when I first came here?”
Isabella hummed in agreement. The dishes he made were indeed more delicious. Despite how often she had his cooking, she had not gotten bored of it.
“If you knew I was a young master of the Yorks, would you have hired me?”
Isabella said, “Maybe not.”
“That’s why Zachary covered up my identity. I wasn’t keeping it from you on purpose. You didn’t ask me about it in detail either. I’ve always kept a low profile in Wiltspoon. There’s no way I’d announce that I’m a young master of a wealthy family after coming here.”
After a moment of silence, Isabella said, “Your passion for cooking is unmatched. You’re already successful, and you have a great family background. Despite not lacking money or fame, you’re still so hardworking.”
Austin was willing to hide his identity and travel far to be her chef.
He was genuinely passionate about cooking.
Austin stopped walking. He looked at her intensely and said, “What if I said I came to Windermere to look for a wife? Would you believe me?”
Isabella was surprised.
“Do you have someone you like? Is she here?” Isabella asked out of curiosity.
Most people loved to gossip. She was only human, inquisitive in nature.
Isabella was invested in Austin’s story. He traveled a long distance to get a wife. She was curious which girl had such impeccable charm that even a young master of the Yorks was head over heels for her.
“My nana is a playful old lady. Since my eldest brother is managing the company well, she felt like her abilities were not being put to good use. Therefore, she turned her attention toward choosing wives for her grandsons.”
Isabella laughed. “Old Mrs. York is doing it for your sakes. It’s probably a common trait in all parents. They start worrying when their children of marriageable age haven’t started dating anyone.
“I’m managing my family business, but my mom is also anxious about my marriage. She wants me to continue handling our business and marry a good man. Not only that, she doesn’t want me to marry into a family that lives far away. She’s concerned that I might be unable to handle the family matters if I’m far away.
“My mom always said that a woman’s prime is short, unlike a man’s. If we don’t get a boyfriend while we’re young, it’ll only get more difficult from then on. I’d have more choices before I turn twenty-five, but my choices would only dwindle thereafter.
“I’m turning twenty-seven soon. Who’d choose me? Moreover, there aren’t many young men who catch my eye.”
