Chapter 447
Just as Julian Everett was about to rush out to find Evelyn Knight, his phone rang.
It was Vincent Lowell.
Seeing the caller ID, Julian finally let out a breath.
"Hello," he answered.
But it was Evelyn’s voice on the other end. "Julian, it’s me."
All his worry seemed to melt away in that moment. Julian’s voice softened, "Yeah, I just tried calling you but couldn’t get through."
His tone gave away how worried he’d been.
Evelyn felt a little embarrassed hearing that. "I didn’t want you to panic. I just got rear-ended, and my phone flew out the window and got completely smashed."
She stood by the crumpled back of her car, looking helplessly at the mess. Her phone, now just shattered bits a few feet away, was beyond saving.
She hadn't expected to get caught in a pile-up like that.
Traffic police were already on-site. Worried Julian would be trying to contact her, she borrowed Vincent’s phone to call him—knew exactly he’d be freaking out the second he couldn’t reach her.
