Chapter 40
I Like You (3)
Matt took Rose away from the mall to a cafe that was just outside the wall.
Against her wish, he forced her to sit and he ordered coffee.
Now he was sitting facing Rose drinking the coffee while Rose's coffee was untouched. She was glaring at him.
What does this person think that he is doing? Keeping her here against her wish?
"What do you think you are doing right now?" Rose asked. She was really starting to lose her temper.
He suddenly showed up and put her in the centre of the malicious hatred of two crazy women and now he forced her here to drink coffee with him. What is he trying to do with her?
Matt only rasied an eyebrow. "What do you think I'm trying to do?" He asked her. He was calm like he did not notice that the woman was starting to get angry.
Rose was exasperated. "How am I supposed to know that?! How am I supposed to know what you are trying to do? You just showed up and put me in the spotlight...don't you think that you can make people misunderstand with the things that you are doing right now?" Rose asked. She really didn't like being the centre of attraction at all.
Matt blinked, completely giving off the feeling of someone who did not understand what was going on.
"People are going to misunderstand? What are they going to misunderstand?"
Rose "....."
Does he really not know? Doesn't he acting like this will make people think that the both of them really have something to do with each other? That they are a couple?
Looking at the clear gaze in his eyes, Rose was tempted to believe that he really did not know what was going on right now.
"Don't you know....that people....they are going to think that the both of us are really in a relationship?" Rose asked.
No matter how much she did not want to, in the end, she still had to say it out. It really was embarrassing and it left her feeling irksome.
Matt was quiet. He pursed his lips like he was thinking about something.
Rose peered at the man in front of him. Does he finally know what she is talking about? Does he finally realize how misleading his actions are right now?
Then he looked straight at Rose and said,
"Since people already misunderstand, then why don't we just make it real? We won't be dicieving people then. Isn't that what you are worried about?".
Rose ".....!!!!!"
Seriously, why doesn't his speech and actions follow the script at all?!
Since she already expressed her concerns to him, shouldn't he say something like she should not worry that he is going to settle it and make sure that people won't talk about her behind her back?
He actually wants to make it real? And whoever said that she was worried about decieving people? She wasn't worried about that at all! She was worried that she would be put in the spotlight and talked about by many people. She did not want that at all.
Still, thinking about the meaning of his words, when he said that they should make it real... Rose felt her face heat up all of a sudden.
Matt's gaze that was on her did not miss the blush that was now evident on her face at all. He chuckled to himself. He really liked seeing this embarrassing look on her face. It really was fun to tease her like this.
"You....who said that I want to make anything real with you?" Rose asked. She was not as thick skinned as Scarlett and so she as easily embarrassed.
Matt smiled and sipped his coffee. Not saying anything else.
Rose decided to drop that topic or else she was going to be the one on the losing end. There was no way that she could win against this completely shameless person at all. It was better to give it up right now for the sake of her metal health.
"You....did you really come in because of me?" Rose asked. She had been curious about this since when he said that.
Truthfully, she thought that he was there to get something but then he saw her coincidentally. She was shocked when he said that he was there because of her.
Matt cocked his eyebrow. "What do you think?"
Rose lowered her head, not daring to look into how face. What did she think? She did not think anything at all ...or perhaps...she did not dare to think.
She just wanted him to tell her himself.
"You...." Rose did not complete it.
"Don't think too much. I was there to get something. I'm not a stalker. How was I supposed to know that you were there and even followed you there?" Matt asked. There was some sneer in his voice, like he was disappointed that she would think this way.
"Ah..." Rose could only let out this sound.
Thinking about it, what he said did make sense. Why would he come there to see her? It's not as if he was following her around and he knew where she was going to be every time. It did not make sense at all.
But....why did she feel disappointed when he found out that he wasn't actually there for her? What is wrong with her?
Rose shook her head. What is she thinking? Why does she suddenly care about these things?
"But...." Matt suddenly said.
Rose immediately rasied her head up. She was curious about what he was going to add.
"There is no way that I can leave someone who claimed to be my "girlfriend" alone and watched as she was bullied" Matt said with an air of righteousness.
He said it as if he only did what was right and she was the one that was overthinking. Why does this man always find a way to make everything that he says seem so right?
Rose was completely shameless. He couldn't watch? He should have just watched it and stayed out of it!
Actually...she wasn't even bullied. To be fair, she was the one who bullied Sonia and Jenna. She scared them so much that thier legs were about to give away.
She didn't suffer any lose. On the other hand, it was the both of them who suffered a lot of losses.
Somehow, he managed to make her remember the events that happened that night. This man....must be find a way to tease her whenever he had the chance?
"That day...." Rose wanted to explain but she stoped herself.
She had explained countless times since that day. All her words were going to be a waste and he was only going to find a hole in her words to tease her with. It was completely useless and even harmful to her.
She should just let it go.
"Anyway, thank you for what you did for me. I'm going to treat you to dinner to pay you back" Rose said as she made to get up. She really did not feel comfortable staying in the same place with this person at all.
Matt frowned when he saw that she was about to leave. "Are you just going to leave like that? You didn't even touch the coffee" he said.
"I'm busy today. I'll be sure to buy you dinner some time" Rose said. She wasn't busy. She just did not want to continue staying here.
"You are going to buy me coffee? I don't think so. You don't even want to sit and have coffee with me right now. If I really count on you buying dinner for me, I doubt that it'll ever happen in this lifetime" Matt said.
"I..." Rose wavered because she was caught. Because they worked in the same place, she knew that she could not completely avioid seeing him. she had just decided internally to keep away from him as possible so that they don't have anything to do with each other privately.
Matt forced her to sit back. "Don't to. Stay" he said.
Rose sat back. She could feel her heartbeat increasing.
Rose suddenly made a decision. She could not continue to guess what this man's thoughts were like this forever. She had to find out why he was really doing all of this. Only then would she be able to rest well.
"Why are you doing this?" Rose asked.
The answer came almost immediately. He did not beat around the bush like the other times.
"Because I like you"
Rose had picked up the coffee and sipped from it so he won't nag about her not drinking the coffee. Immediately she heard what he said, she spat it all out at once.
Matt saw that she was shocked. Heck, he too was shocked that he blurted this out himself.
He handed her his handkerchief.
"Here" he said.
Rose collected the handkerchief from him and wiped her mouth with it. Then she focused her gaze on the man.
"What did you say?" She asked him. She was wrong that she heard wrong. This was the only explanation for this. She heard wrong. There was no way that this person really does like her.
"I said that I like her" his voice was loud and clear, eliminating all thoughts of Rose that she did not hear well.
She heard well. She heard that he likes her. From the way that she had been behaving since, she should feel some kind of excitement when he said that he likes her right?
But she did not feel excited...she only felt sadness.
Because she was sure that there was no way that he really likes her... maybe he just wants to play around...
"You like me. Do you think that I'll ever believe that?" Rose asked.
The smile that was on Matt's face froze. This wasn't what he was expecting at all. He thought that she was going to be any and flustered when he said that he likes her...
He really didn't think...that she was going to tell him outright that she did not believe him at all.
What kind of plot twist is this?
"You...." Matt was obviously at a loss for words. For the first time, he did not know what to say to her at all.
"Do you think that I'll believe that you really like me? The word "like" probably comes easy to people like you. There's no way that you'll take something like that seriously. I'm sorry but I really don't have the time or the energy to accompany you and play around with you. I really don't want to do it!" Rose said.
She knew well for herself what kind of person Ryder was. If it wasn't for the fact that they did not have a choice and they would break up after six months, Rose would never let Scarlett have anything to do with that man.
Since Matt and Ryder are good friends, then Matt shouldn't be far off from him right? Even if he wasn't as bad as Ryder...he definitely can't be a sincere person at all.
