Chapter 69: The Assassin's Attack
While Joseph's men were searching Cardiff's body, they did indeed find a chip implanted in his neck.
"Boss, we found the chip," one of them reported. "What should we do?"
The chip was embedded in Cardiff's neck. They decapitated Cardiff and removed the chip from his head, taking it far away.
"After all these years, it seems Kerry's family still wants to settle the score with me. No matter, I have a score to settle with them too," Joseph said, his tone filled with disdain. "They bullied my sister back then and thought they could get away with it? It was their fault, not mine, yet Kerry's family had my family exile me and still want me dead now?"
"Just wait," Joseph added, a dark promise in his voice.
Mastema, one of Joseph's men, called out eagerly, "Boss! Why don't we just go after them directly? Let's kill them!"
Joseph narrowed his eyes. "No, it's been two days since I left Tangna and Lucy. I promised them I'd be back in three days. I can't break my word."
"Alright, your task now is to clean up all the trash in Florida. As for Kerry's men, let them come. They'll just be delivering themselves to their deaths."
Joseph turned and left, his figure gradually disappearing from view as his men began their mission to purge Florida of its unsavory elements.
Meanwhile, in far-off New York, the Kerry family received news of Cardiff's death.
"Mr. Kerry! Bad news! Cardiff in Florida is dead!" the butler reported anxiously.
Kerry squinted. "Oh?"
He had nearly forgotten who Cardiff was. The butler quickly explained, "Five years ago, we were looking for Joseph but couldn't find him. Cardiff's information was unreliable, so we implanted a chip in his body. As long as Cardiff was alive, the chip would continue to operate. Now that the chip has stopped working, it means Cardiff is dead! If I'm not mistaken, it's likely Joseph who sought revenge!"
Hearing Joseph's name, Kerry's eyes narrowed further. "Joseph? Hasn't that brat disappeared? Why is he back now? And he has the nerve to come back?"
He let out a cold laugh. "You must catch him for me, dead or alive! But preferably alive."
The butler nodded. "Understood!"
They immediately sought out the best assassins. "Find Joseph and kill him, but it would be better if you could bring him back alive!"
The seasoned assassins were taken aback. "You're looking for Joseph? He's still alive?"
"Going against Mr. Kerry is a death wish!" another assassin commented, not out of arrogance but because the Kerry family was indeed powerful. Publicly, they appeared to be a law-abiding family with Kerry as a successful businessman. Privately, they ran an assassin organization.
The assassins, learning that Joseph was still alive, were in shock. They gathered around to listen to the details of Joseph and Kerry's old grudge, amazed by what they heard.
The butler decided to send more assassins to Florida to ensure Joseph was found and killed. As Kerry had instructed, it was even better to bring him back alive—it would be a significant reward for them.
Meanwhile, Joseph was in Florida, dealing with financial matters. He discovered that the large commercial center he had established years ago had been sold by Cardiff for three billion dollars as his escape fund. The buyers were Florida's three most powerful families: the Medrigez family, the Hanke family, and the Tom Cruise family.
Upon learning this, Joseph instructed his men, "Inform these three families to meet tomorrow."
Joseph knew that if Cardiff was going to leave, he would have sold the commercial center. If it had been abandoned, it wouldn't have been a problem, but being sold made it difficult for Joseph to reclaim it. Though he wasn't inclined to act aggressively, he did want to see if a solution could be reached with the three families.
Suddenly, Joseph remembered someone. "Have you seen Hecarim?"
Hecarim was a loyal brother from Joseph's past. Although Joseph hadn't placed him in the commercial center due to his honesty, Hecarim had helped Joseph escape during his time of need, losing his legs in the process.
Reflecting on this, Joseph sighed. "Find Hecarim. I need to see him."
Azazel, one of Joseph's men, felt uneasy. "Boss, you should be prepared. Hecarim hasn't been living well all these years."
Joseph nodded. "It's fine. Just take me to him."
"Yes, sir."
They drove to a location in Florida. Azazel understood Joseph well, knowing he was not only powerful but also loyal and compassionate. Joseph valued true friendship over power or status.
The car stopped in front of a dilapidated building. Joseph got out and walked in, finding Hecarim in a wheelchair, looking weary. It was a shelter for homeless people.
