Chapter 55: Marry Him
But Lucy hesitated a bit.
Suddenly, she noticed the group of prominent figures behind Joseph.
"Why... so many big shots?"
For Lucy, these big shots didn't mean much, as she knew they lived in different worlds.
She never expected these prominent figures to appear at her doorstep.
"What are they doing here?"
Joseph spoke calmly.
"Lucy, they're my friends. They came here with me to propose to you."
The onlookers around them exploded in chatter.
"So she really is Lucy!"
"Who said Lucy was kicked out of the family? I knew it couldn't be true!"
"Oh my God, an older woman with a child, and she's still loved this much!"
"This is too unfair, Lucy doesn't deserve it!"
People were furious, but they couldn't say anything more.
They weren't part of this circle and had no say in the matter.
Lucy was also taken aback, realizing these people were Joseph's friends.
Joseph rarely brought anyone here, but this time, to win Lucy over, he went all out.
"Come on, let's go home."
"But..."
"I won't hurt you. And I won't let our child be without a mother. Trust me, okay?"
"Okay."
Lucy finally agreed, though her shyness made her look a bit odd.
But at this moment, no one had time to think too much about it.
"They're actually going to be together?"
"Oh my God! What's going on?"
"Why would Joseph choose Lucy?"
"Look at Lucy, she looks so happy!"
"This is so unfair!"
Among the crowd, many people started complaining.
But they could only keep it to themselves.
No matter how much they disliked it, disagreed, or wanted to oppose it,
As long as none of the wealthy young masters and ladies stepped forward to voice their true opinions, all opposition was pointless.
Joseph held Lucy, and they both got into a black Lincoln car.
The car drove straight to the old Lucy family house.
After getting out of the car, Joseph gave a few instructions to the people at the door.
Then, Lucy followed him inside.
There were even more people here than before.
Lucy felt a bit embarrassed. As she walked in, she wanted to keep moving forward, but Joseph pulled her close.
"What... what are you doing?"
Lucy was completely stunned by the experience.
Joseph coughed and calmly explained.
"Since so many people have come to your doorstep, you can't just let them stand there, can you?"
Speaking, Joseph held her and led her to the highest point at the entrance.
No wonder he brought her from the back door to the front door; it was for this reason!
Lucy felt too embarrassed to lift her head.
She rested her face against Joseph's chest, and Joseph said softly.
"Are you satisfied now?"
"No, I'm not! Why did you spend so much money! This isn't good!"
To her surprise, Joseph burst out laughing.
Then, looking at everyone in the room, he began to speak.
"You all should know what happened back then, right? I accidentally made Lucy pregnant before marriage."
"But it wasn't my fault. I was drugged and betrayed."
"None of this was primarily my doing, but it was all my responsibility."
"I was the one who hurt Lucy the most."
"I've been working hard outside all these years, unable to come back, because I knew if I stayed here, I wouldn't be able to create better opportunities and value."
"I never imagined that in five years, my woman, Lucy, would go through so much."
At this point, Joseph felt a bit pained.
But he quickly collected himself and looked at Lucy with a happy expression.
"I heard she's a great mother. Even without a husband, despite the hardships, she never complained and always took care of our child."
"I believe few women could do that, but Lucy did."
"So, I've always admired her. In fact, my feelings for her have only grown."
Turning to face Lucy, Joseph spoke earnestly.
Lucy felt a bit embarrassed, understanding what Joseph was saying.
"So you came back today for this?"
"Yes. I came to propose and ask you to marry me."
Lucy's heart melted at Joseph's straightforwardness. She never expected the usually cold and ruthless Joseph to say such things to her.
"Joseph, I don't think we need to take this step."
But Joseph didn't let her off easily. He continued.
"Lucy, you must understand, I've been working hard outside all these years, not because I'm afraid of failure, but because I didn't want the woman I love to continue suffering at home."
"But now, that home has gained stability through our efforts."
"So..."
Joseph got down on one knee.
The onlookers finally understood the backstory.
There was so much behind this event!
Seeing this, everyone looked at them with envy and excitement.
"Marry him! Marry him!"
"He's a good man!"
"Oh my God, I hope they find happiness together!"
"Marry him! Marry him!"
Everyone chanted, and Lucy couldn't hold back her tears.
She could only see Joseph in her eyes.
Lucy didn't care about anyone else, but she had a special place for Joseph.
Tangna saw this and whispered,
"Mommy, say yes to Daddy!"
"Mommy, please accept Daddy's proposal!"
Azazel handed over a box.
"This is our boss's betrothal gift."
She handed the box to Lucy's father, Simpson.
"Please open it."
Simpson obediently opened the box.
Inside was a document appointing him as the chairman of a corporation!
Lucy had no idea what was happening. After much thought, she placed her hand on Joseph's ring.
"Alright, I accept."
"This truly is a double blessing!"
