Chapter 36: Mafia Backing

Giselle was indeed no ordinary person; he was the mafia boss. But even he dared not act rashly with someone like Jenna, an FBI agent. After all, if the FBI truly wanted to take down Giselle, dismantling his current operations would be a simple task. Not long ago, the FBI had even taken Giselle in for questioning. Everyone thought that Giselle was finished, but it turned out the FBI didn’t do anything significant to him. This indicated that the FBI still found Giselle useful and wanted information from him. Giselle knew he still held some value to the FBI. Without it, they would have no reason not to completely turn against him. However, Giselle’s position was already precarious. If he angered the FBI now, he would soon find himself in cold handcuffs! “Since I’ve conveyed my congratulations, it’s time for me to leave. Goodbye, everyone.” With that, Giselle turned to leave. Joseph and Lucy had already reached the door. Jenna, though unaware of what was happening, approached Sophie. As she walked, Jenna muttered, “Giselle surely has no good intentions!” When she reached Sophie, she noticed the slap mark on Sophie’s face. “Sophie, what happened to you?” She was worried. “Tell me what happened at home. I’ll get justice for you!” “No need.” Sophie shook her head. “It’s nothing.” Seeing this, Jenna didn’t press further, though her expression was puzzled. Then Sophie suddenly spoke. “Actually, Giselle was brought here by Lucy’s boyfriend!” “This…” Hearing this, Jenna’s expression grew even more puzzled. “That man with Lucy could summon Giselle? What is he trying to do? Is he trying to show our family a lesson?” When Sophie mentioned this, her expression turned manipulative. “Jenna, do you remember my boyfriend Chris? We were celebrating Grandpa’s birthday when Lucy came in and started arguing. My boyfriend stood up for me, and Lucy called her boyfriend over!” “Her boyfriend called Giselle, who bullied my boyfriend Chris and his father! How could Lucy do such a thing? She’s inhuman!” If Jenna hadn’t come, Sophie might not have said anything. But now, hearing Jenna, Sophie realized getting the FBI involved would be best. With Jenna right in front of her, not using this opportunity would be foolish! After hearing Sophie’s embellished story, Jenna was furious! “Sophie, I know you’re kind and forgiving, but that doesn’t mean I can’t teach her a lesson!” “I’ll go beat that woman right now!” Jenna was really angry. Watching Jenna’s retreating figure, Sophie sighed in relief. Finally, the issue was resolved. Though she had been slapped, getting the FBI involved would be a big win for her! Jenna quickly returned with a large iron hammer, looking ready to smash it on Lucy. “Jenna, don’t be impulsive!” Sophie hurriedly stopped her. “Okay.” Jena, who adored Sophie, nodded and put the hammer down. “I’ll spare Lucy, but she and her boyfriend must die! I’ll contact the defense forces now. Giselle and his men won’t escape!” Meanwhile, Joseph ignored everyone and took Lucy to the hospital. He had seen the scratches on Lucy’s body. “I’m fine. It doesn’t hurt,” Lucy said, embarrassed. Joseph smiled. “Whether it hurts or not, it’s better to treat it. If it gets infected, it’ll be troublesome.” “But going to the hospital costs money. We don’t need to spend that,” Lucy protested. Hearing this, Joseph felt even more heartache for her. What kind of life had she and their daughter been living? They couldn’t even afford a hospital visit! “Listen to me, let’s go to the hospital.” Soon, they arrived at the hospital entrance. Joseph held Lucy’s hand and led her to the treatment room. Lucy hesitated but didn’t refuse. Though she had no money, Joseph seemed much more capable than she was. Seeing his clothes, she knew he must be someone important! So Lucy trusted him and believed he could handle things. In the treatment room, Joseph helped Lucy sit down. Then he knelt by her side and began unbuttoning her skirt. Lucy was too nervous to look at Joseph. She had never experienced anything like this, feeling extremely awkward. But Joseph continued unbuttoning her skirt, making her face turn red! Joseph didn’t notice her discomfort. When his hand touched Lucy’s skin, he realized how nice her skin felt. Despite being a bit undernourished, it was still soft! Joseph carefully lifted her skirt and took off his shirt. Lucy’s face turned even redder! But this time, it wasn’t out of embarrassment but from seeing Joseph’s muscles! Seeing his well-built chest, Lucy’s heart raced. But more than that, she felt a strange sensation. “Thank you, Mr. Joseph.” She spoke. “No problem, it’s what I should do.” Joseph folded his shirt and placed it under her wound. “Not sure how long the doctor will take, so this will do for now. Are you comfortable?” Lucy shyly nodded. “Yes…” Suddenly, she remembered something. “How do you know Giselle?” Joseph thought for a moment. “He’s a friend. I asked him to help today. By the way, Lucy, I haven’t properly apologized to you.”
