Chapter 4291
Sure enough, it was not long before the sound of Hunter’s struggling curses came from outside.
“Let me go, you dogs! Let me go! I’m going in there to curse that unfilial daughter of mine!”
Hunter even hurled insults at the hospital security guards.
His shouts gradually faded into the distance and the hallway outside the ward returned to silence.
Two nurses came in to change Caroline’s dressing.
As they worked, one of them remarked, “Ms. Fisher, your father comes here every day to yell at you, and you just let him.”
“He’s my dad. I refuse to see him, and he’s already furious. Letting him vent a little is better than letting him work himself up to the point of spitting blood or having a stroke—that would just make things worse for me too.
“It’s better for him to let out his anger.”
The two nurses could not say anything in reply to that.
“Ms. Fisher, your wound is healing quite well,” said the nurse changing Caroline’s bandages.
After removing the old dressing and examining the injury on her arm, she instructed the other nurse to disinfect the wound before applying fresh medication.
Caroline glanced at the unfamiliar nurse and asked, “Is she a new trainee?”
“Yes, she’s a trainee. It’s her first day, so I’m showing her the ropes.”
Caroline smiled but did not say anything more.
The senior nurse continued, “Ms. Fisher, you should really have someone escort your father back to his hometown. His daily visits to make a scene disturbs the other patients too.”
They were also affected by the commotion. Sometimes, Hunter would stand at the nurses’ station and shout at them.
It was not like they were the ones preventing him from seeing Caroline, so why was he taking it out on them?
After a brief silence, Caroline replied, “I’ll arrange for someone to take him home later. But the problem is, he has legs of his own, so he’ll just come back again. There’s not much I can do about that. It’s not like I can break both his legs, right?
“My injury is almost healed anyway. I can go home to recuperate. That way, I won’t be disturbing everyone else.”
Hunter’s daily outbursts were indeed disruptive to others. She could not just ignore the noise pollution he created just because she did not mind it herself.
“Darren, please arrange for someone to take my dad back to his hometown now. Tell him that the more he makes a scene, the less likely I am to forgive my brothers. They’re definitely going to get sentenced. If he really wants them to get lighter sentences, he should go and hire lawyers for them.
“Also, remind him that I’m the only one he can rely on now. If he keeps cursing me to the point where I don’t even want to deal with him anymore, or even cut ties with him, who’s going to take care of him in his old age?”
Was he counting on his three daughters-in-law to support him? That was impossible.
Once her three brothers were imprisoned, her two sisters-in-law who had not gotten divorced would move with their children to properties under their own names.
They wanted nothing to do with Hunter as their father-in-law. How could they possibly take responsibility for his care?
Caroline’s nieces and nephews were all still minors and were even less able to take up the burden.
So, Hunter would have to depend on Caroline, his daughter, for his later years.
Caroline would not give her father much money, but she would cover his basic living expenses.
Last time, she had given him a sum that was enough to ensure he would live comfortably for the next few years through Darren.
“Ms. Fisher, after the way he’s treated you, you’re still going to provide for him?”
One of the nurses could not help but comment. Before Caroline could respond, the nurse added, “But I guess there’s no other choice. As children, we do have a duty to take care of our parents.”
