Chapter 4280
Hadrian quickly pieced it together. Seeing his wife’s silent confirmation, he turned the light back on and sat up, studying her face.
He asked somewhat disbelievingly, “Isa likes Austin? She told you this? So the girl does like men. I’d begun to wonder if she was incapable of love.”
Though surprised, he lacked his wife’s anxiety. If anything, he felt relieved.
His daughter was normal after all.
He had secretly worried she might never love anyone, or that her orientation might diverge from tradition. The reality was, that she had just never dated anyone despite being in her twenties because she was simply unimpressed by the lackluster suitors swarming her.
Austin, however, was different.
Hadrian had appreciated him from the start. Their first meeting convinced him the young man was no ordinary talent, which was later proven true when Austin’s elite background came to light.
Despite being a scion of a hundred-billion-dollar empire and having considerable wealth of his own, he was still humble enough to travel far to work as a mere chef, all to refine his craft.
“If it’s Austin, why fret? He’s been under our noses daily. We know his character.
“Plus, he’s from a wealthy family too and the Yorks’ reputation is impeccable. There’s no risk of him being a gold-digger.
“Honestly? I can’t think of anyone more suited to Isa. They’re the same age, have shared interests, he’s attentive to her, and Isa’s good to him too—no wonder they got along so well. Turns out sparks were flying all along!”
Chuckling, he added, “When Austin first arrived, I thought Tati fancied him. The boy’s unfairly handsome. Never imagined it’d be our daughter catching his eye.”
With a grin, he mused, “Better my son-in-law than my nephew’s husband. Tati isn’t actually into him, right? Dear, you should sound her out later. We can’t have them feuding over a man.”
Delphine glared at him.
While most mothers grew fonder of their sons-in-law over time, it was the opposite for her. Her husband was the one smitten with Austin instead.
“Wait, you haven’t confirmed if they’re officially together. Did Isa say so?” Hadrian asked as his initial delight gave way to anxiety.
What if this was all speculation?
After a pause, Delphine admitted, “I saw them embracing at the staircase earlier. If they weren’t indoors, I think they would have kissed too.
“But their mutual interest is recent. You know Isa—once she understands how she feels, she acts fast. She went straight for answers.”
“What answers?”
She detailed how Austin had targeted their daughter from day one, as well as how Grandma May had set her eye on Isabella in advance and orchestrated their match.
Hadrian clicked his tongue as he listened.
“That old lady’s something else! We should visit her soon and scout out our future in-laws to see if they really live up to the hype for Isa’s sake.”
Delphine was speechless.
