Seeing Leona finally looking less miserable, I secretly breathed a sigh of relief. But what was with her attitude?
The moment she felt better, she told me to get up and asked what I was doing here. Where else would I be if not here?
It was infuriating.
"Don't you have anything to say to me?" I stood by the bed, looking down at the woman lying there.
Leona kept her head lowered. I waited for a while, but she didn't react.
An inexplicable anger rose in my chest.
"When they were making things difficult for you, couldn't you have come to find me? Is begging really that hard?"
She remained silent, which only made me angrier.
"Leona, how much luck do you have left to squander? How many times can you gamble with your life like this? Do you realize that if I'd been even a moment later today, you would actually be dead?"
That sentence must have struck a nerve. Her head snapped up, her eyes bloodshot as she glared at me.
