Chapter 148
Simon POV
Charlie’s voice came through the link just as I was settling back against the pillows.
Simon, I need you. Now.
I glanced down at Aisha. She was still asleep, her hair spilled across my chest like a warm, silken weight. The steady rise and fall of her breathing was dangerous. It made me want to stay right here until the sun burned itself out.
Whatever it is, I sent back, it can wait.
It can’t, Charlie’s voice was taut, almost sharp. I am asking you as your friend come down to the clearing.
I smirked at the ceiling. “You’re not my friend when I’m in bed.”
Out loud this time, Aisha murmured, “Mhm… stay,” and curled closer, her leg hooking over mine in a way that made my wolf growl possessively.
Charlie’s frustration flared through the link. Simon, I’m serious. This is about Noelle.
That got my attention a little. “She’s fine. She’s probably working herself to death in the hospital, but fine.”
I’m proposing tonight. The words tumbled out fast, like he’d been holding them back too
