Chapter 68

"Daniel....you should know how your sister is. It's not that she wants to cut off all ties with you directly. It's because she doesn't have the courage to come to you. She is scared that you are still angry with her. Besides, she still feels guilty because of your father's incident. She thinks that it's her fault. She thinks that if she had listened and just come back home, then none of those things would have happened. She thinks... that she indirectly caused your father to die" Vivian said. Of course, she knew how to convey the message so that Vanessa sounded really pitiful. They has come here today to meet with Vanessa so that they could clear up whatever misunderstandings they had with each other. Vivian really didn't want to continue to watch the brother and sister keep thier distance from each other because of some worthless jerk. And so, before Vanessa would get there, she was buttering her husband up. If he feels sorry for his sister then the discussion was probably going to go well. They won't think about tht things that happened in the past. Vanessa really did not know how to make herself look pitiful. She was always pretending to be strong and dealing with everything on her own. So even though she was in a bad condition, no one knew about it. She always kept it to herself. It was really frustrating. She had to help her out here or else she was sure that Vanessa was going to blow everything up with that attitude of hers. Daniel sighed. His wife had told him this before. He really did not know what was going on in Vanessa's head. Seriously, how can she even come up with that conclusion? It was unfortunate that thier father had passed away so early but it was because he was sick. It did not have anything to do with Vanessa. Why did she even blame herself for that? "I really don't know what's up with Vanessa. How can she even blame herself for this? It has nothing to do with her at all" Daniel said. The more he thought about it, the more he felt sorry for that sister of his. She had always been trying to do things on her own and get the approval of him and thier father for a like time. She just had to meet a useless man. Even when she found out that she had been tricked by a jerk, she still refused to come back, wanting to take all responsibilities for her daughter by herself even when it was hard for her. What really is the meaning of all of this? She could have just come back home. She did not need to suffer so much outside. And him too, because he was angry, he told himself that he wasn't going to care about her at all. In the end, so many years passed and they ended up at this point. "You know how Vanessa is. She always wanted to prove herself. So even when she encounters a setback, she won't tell anyone about it. She will always try to deal with the problems herself" Vivian said. "Why will she want to deal with it herself? It's not like she doesn't have a family! She has us! So why is she always trying to deal with her problems herself?" Daniel asked. He was feeling really têrrible now. Vivian didn't say anything. She only subtly smiled. Tht more he felt sorry for his sister, the more he'll be inclined to help her. This is for the best. Just then, she saw Vanessa walk into the café. Vivian waved at her to get her attention. Vanessa smiled when she saw Vivian. But when she saw her older brother whom she had not seen in a long time, she froze. She really wanted to just dash out of the cafe right now. She did not know how she was supposed to face this brother of hers. After all, she had made a lot of mistakes. He told her then that she should not get together with Ethan....but she still went ahead to do it. Even when he left her and a five year old Scarlett, she still refused to go back home because she was sure that he was going to come back to them. A lot of time had passed now and she had seen for herself that she was stupid to believe whatever that mad said. She was stupid for not listening to her family and for suffering so much with her daughter. She finally realized all the mistakes that she made, but how was she supposed to make up for them now? How was she supposed to face her brother? Back then, she had been haughty and proud, wanting to prove to them that she was the one right and they were the ones wrong. She didn't want to admit that she was a bad judge of human character. But now, time and experience has proved that they were right and she was eating. She finally learned the hard way that she should have listened to her family. In order to protect her last shred of pride and dignity, she refused to go back after all of these years. She kept wanting to hold on to her pride. She herself knew that it was stupid for her to do this but she really did not have any other choice. Vivian saw that Vanessa was hesitating and she got up at once. If Vanessa leaves without talking to Daniel then all of her efforts would have gone to waste. She did not want that to happen and so she walked over to where Vanessa was standing. "What are you doing? Let's go! Daniel is over there!" Vivian said. She could see the hesitation in Vanessa's gaze. "Vivian....I....I'm not sure....," Vanessa's voice trailed off. "What's there not to be sure about? It's not as if you did something wrong! Come with me!" Vivian did not give her the chance to leave, decisively pulling her along with her to thier table.
