Theodore didn't respond to Abigail right away. His eyes were red as he held the urn in his arms.
He couldn't stand to think about it. When he awoke from his brief coma, the body in his arms was gone.
All that remained was a white urn, coldly placed on the coffee table in front of him. No matter how tightly he held it, it would never grow warm.
The more he stared at the urn in his arms, the redder his eyes became.
He couldn't understand how a living person could suddenly be reduced to nothing but a handful of ashes.
Just that night, Tammy had been in his arms, her eyes crinkling with joy, her presence brilliant and radiant, like a fallen angel gracing the world.
Even when he closed his eyes, he could hear her chuckling in his ear. But when he opened them, she wasn't there.
He'd never get his beloved woman back.
