Chapter 1511
"Honestly, the person I can let go the most easily is Miranda. Since noticing her at the shared dorm in freshman year, I've fallen for her. I thought she was going to be the one with whom I spent the rest of my life, but like most graduates, we broke up once graduation came.
"I don't blame her. She's so talented, and returning to my hometown with me would only bury her. She deserves to stay in the big city and spread her wings."
Jack didn't know how to console Isaac. Perhaps listening was the best form of support, so Jack raised his bottle and clinked it with Isaac's.
Isaac continued, "I think this must be the work of fate. Some people are like shooting stars in your life. They streak across the sky in a blaze of brilliance, and just when you think they'll always be there, fate plays its little trick, reminding you they were only ever passing through. They are beautiful but fleeting."
At this point in the conversation, Isaac paused and asked, "Oh, Jack, how are things with Phoebe?"
